What did you do this past week?

This past week I went to class and worked on the latest project, Life, with my partner. We have made good progress and have implemented the Conway and Fredkin Cell, and we are now working on the Cell handler.

What’s in your way?

I’m really feeling the end-of-semester malaise, so it’s harder to get motivated to work. But I’m pushing past it.

What will you do next week?

Next week we will hopefully finish Life, and I can direct my energies to my other classes.

If you read it, what did you think of the What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?

I thought it was very insightful. It’s crazy how almost every woman has stories like this, and just how prevalent this behavior is in our industry.

What was your experience of Life and inheritance? (this question will vary, week to week)

I had never heard of Conway Cells or anything, but as for implementation, I think that it has been going well. I’ve definitely dealt with inheritance before, but never in C++, and I don’t always have the clearest idea of when to use it and how it works.

What made you happy this week?

I started a Minecraft server with my friends that has been really fun.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

When you’re trying to debug, don’t discount the power of unit tests. Often, that method that you feel is too simple to warrant a test is the one with a problem in it.
