What did you do this past week?

I started work on the voting project. So far I have managed to get the I/O working and to set up classes for Ballots and Candidates. I also did a lot of the overhead work, like creating a make file and setting up

What’s in your way?

I have unfortunately started playing the game Hollow Knight, which is leading to a big drop in my productivity. Aside from that, though, I think I am making good progress on the project when I do work on it.

What will you do next week?

I will finish up the project, hopefully by tomorrow, so that I can take Tuesday mostly off for my birthday. I don’t know how well that will turn out, though, considering I have a lot of work in other classes as well, and the crippling Hollow Knight addiction mentioned above.

If you read it, what did you think of the Single Responsibility Principle?

I thought it was a very interesting paper. It was one of the shortest ones we’ve read for the class, but it defined a very important concept that I’m sure will keep being utilized in the future of the course.

What was your experience of Voting and consts? (this question will vary, week to week)

I was already familiar with Rank Choice Voting, and am in fact an advocate for adopting it in United States elections. As for programming it, I am not done yet, but I feel like it is going well so far. As for consts, I have used them in the past, but I have never put too much thought into them. It was great to get more background on them, and I hope that in the future I can be better about using them intentionally.

How did you fare in the storm?

I fared pretty well. I had no damages, which I feel very fortunate for. My apartment had electricity for the whole week except for a day when we had rolling blackouts. We had running water for the week except for one day. I did not have access to wifi for the first half of the week, but it was honestly kind of nice because it lead to me relaxing and reading.

What made you happy this week?

I went on a picnic with my friends that I haven’t seen in a while and had a great time. I definitely can’t wait for the pandemic to be over.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip is to always make sure you understand the commands you’re running to run your code, and double-check what the defaults are.
